Laptop on a solo tour 🌎
I was traveling to India via a layover at Vietnam (HAN) airport. Was working at a coffee shop and forgot my laptop at the airport.
Realised this after coming back to India. I called all the helpline numbers of Vietnam airport, they had no clue about it. The tough part was that they didn’t understand English, so I had to speak Vietnamese to explain the situation 👻
Somehow, managed to nail down the coffee shop at airport, reached out to its owner and they handed it to the airport lost and found dept. They wanted me to fly to Vietnam to pick it up. I convinced the airlines to pick it up and send it on their next flight to Delhi. It was the first time my laptop was flying solo.
At Delhi, the ground handling staff picked it up and told me to come there physically to get it after verification (you know what they want in India to release something). Luckily, I’ve some stuff selling at Delhi airport. A senior executive of that company got his staff member to pick that up and kept it in his office.
Now shipping laptop from Delhi to my hometown Chandigarh was a concern as it could get damaged during transit. I was able to find someone who was traveling from Delhi to Chd on the same day and he gave it to me!
Courtesy Insta, FB, emails and 20+ phone calls, my laptop reached my lap within 72 hrs of being lost. It took efforts of dozens of people to get it back. I could have bought a new one but you know, the thrill of rescuing my laptop from another country was exciting.
Now my laptop carries so many airport stickers as scars!
Some lessons I learnt :
1. Law of attraction works. Strangers will help you, stars will align to give you things you want badly.
2. Google translate is amazing.
3. Don’t enjoy your latte so much that you forget your laptop in a foreign country!
