Freelancing and Entrepreneurship
When I was freelancing, I used to pick up any challenging work apart from the usual tech/marketing projects (my core competencies).
"Can you launch my headphone brand in X country?" SURE !
"Can you find distributors for my movie?" WHY NOT?
"Can you travel to Canada for a month and teach public speaking?" DEFINITELY..
"Can you ghost-write articles for this reluctant politician?" OH YES!
"Can you bring companies to my 5 year old B-School for placements? " BRING IT ON…
“Can you launch these new Mercedes models in X,Y,Z cities?” YESSSSS….
I picked up a lot of projects in domains I had no experience in, but I intuitively knew I could figure out stuff. This sounds funny now and risky too. However, in those 4-5 years, I just got shit done. "What if I mess up?" Such thoughts never came into my head.
I highly recommend freelancing to people who want to become entrepreneurs. Entrepreneurship is just like a freelance project that is years (or decades) long.
In both cases, you have :
1. To figure out shit ASAP
2. Skin in the game
3. High risk and rewards
If you survive the chaos and unpredictability of freelancing, if you figure out how to build and sell - You are cut out for becoming an entrepreneur. If not, get a great job in a domain you love.
